Featured on this lovely plate is a scene from the "Tale of Tsar Saltan," a folklore poem written by Alexander Pushkin. The composer Rimsky-Korsakov was so inspired by the poem that he wrote an opera based on it. Here, the artist has captured that inspiring beauty by his own means, creating a simultaneously lifelike and whimsical image. Similarly wonderful plates can be found in the rest of the Russian Fairytales in Porcelain collection. The plate is designed and made in Russia, based on a lacquered original, using rare paints and natural gold. Like others in this series, quantities are limited.  |

The Tale of Tsar Saltan, of His Son the Renowned and Mighty Bogatyr Prince Gvidon Saltanovich, and of the Beautiful Princess-Swan is an 1831 poem by Aleksandr Pushkin, written after the Russian fairy tale edited by Vladimir Dahl. Wynton Marsalis may not have an easily recognizable or even particularly handsome tone, but this erstwhile jazz trumpeter is an amazing virtuoso with a fine sense of classical style.
